South Ural Mining and Processing Company Launched a New Slag Processing Unit

A new slag processing unit launched at the slag heap processing facility of the South Ural Mining Processing Company [SUMPC or rus.: YUGPK] plant in Novotroitsk, Orenburg Region. The third unit commissioned along with a new briquetting line will allow producing of 300,000 tons of finished product per hour in 2020.

A new waste processing unit “Amkom-3” was designed specifically for the conditions of the SUMPC plant. The process is as automated as possible. The design of “Amkom-3” allows for a safe and convenient inspection during the maintenance of the complex, the company told Cement and Its Applications.

“The slag processing unit was built in record time — a month and a half. It increased the efficiency of slag processing by more than 300%,” says the CTO of the slag heap processing facility Vitaly Shilovsky.

“Amkom-1” slag processing unit was commissioned in 2018 and proved its effectiveness and two more units were planned for commissioning in the summer and autumn of 2019.
After the launch of the third unit in November, the plant will be able to reach its design capacity.

OAO UralCvetmetRemont and OOO Promelectrotorg were the contractors in the construction of the slag processing units. The equipment was supplied by an American manufacturer of waste processing solutions for metallurgical enterprises, AMCOM Group. The briquetting line equipment supplier was the German HESS Group and Robert Thomas Metall- und Elektrowerke GmbH & Co.

South Ural Mining and Processing company considers the processing of metallurgical slag for cement production and raw materials for metallurgists one of the main areas of its activity. The company also owns the Gornozavodskcement plant, where the holding produces cement under the Akkermann brand.
