Morocco’s cement sales climb 10.4% to 9.6 mln tons by end-August

Morocco’s cement sales maintained strong momentum through August, reaching 9.6 million tons, up from 8.7 million tons a year earlier, the Housing and Urban Policy Ministry said.

That represents a year-on-year gain of 10.38 percent, confirming sustained growth in a key barometer of construction activity.

Sales in August alone totaled 1.3 million tons, compared with 1.2 million tons in the same month of 2024, a 6.54 percent increase, according to the ministry’s monthly bulletin.

Distribution channels absorbed 5.27 million tons, while ready-mix concrete accounted for 2.4 million tons and precast concrete for nearly 1 million tons. Infrastructure projects consumed 628,000 tons, building works 280,000 tons and mortar more than 43,000 tons.

The ministry noted that cement demand has been buoyed by major public investments, including dams, roads, ports, airports and sports infrastructure, with July alone posting a 17.6 percent surge in sales.

Figures are based on internal data from members of the cement industry association, which includes Ciments du Maroc, LafargeHolcim Maroc, Ciments de l’Atlas, Ciments de Témara and Novacem.
