Serebryansky cement plant replaces coal with natural gas

Serebryansky Cement Plant has successfully completed a joint project with Gazprom Mezhregiongaz LLC on connecting to gas networks. Thanks to the plant's gasification, CO2 emissions will be reduced by 15-17 %, electricity consumption – by 4.2 % and the risk of work-related illnesses – by 14 %.

Pavel Malkov, the Governor of the Ryazan region, Denis Batyzhev, General Director of Serebryansky Cement Plant and Yuri Pakhomovsky, Deputy General Director of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz attended the official ceremony.

At the end of 2022 it was decided to launch a natural gas supply at the plant by the joint efforts of the Government of the Ryazan region and the company "Gazprom". The gas pipeline connecting the plant is about 14 km long and was laid as a part of Gazprom's Gasification of Russian regions development program for 2021-2025.

Serebryansky cement plant is one of the strategically important enterprises of the Ryazan region. The plant produces plain cement and cement with mineral additives, with a total production capacity of about 1.8 million tons annually. 10 years ago, when the plant was commissioned, it operated on coal. Before the switching to pipeline gas, the plant used about 200,000 tons of coal annually.

Among the advantages of plant’s switching to natural gas Pavel Malkov, the Governor of the Ryazan Region, mentions cost efficiency, improving product quality, sustainability and more comfortable working conditions for employees. “In cooperation with Gazprom we updated the Gasification of Russian regions development program up to 2025. It implies a whole range of reconstruction and infrastructure development measures, that will allow carrying on gasification of settlements and local enterprises in Mikhailovsky, Skopinsky, Sapozhkovsky and Rybnovsky regions. Serebryansky Cement Plant was one of the key elements of this program" – Pavel Malkov.

At the moment, the plant has fully adjusted to technological process on natural gas and has achieved the performance indicators. The use of fuel gas creates additional opportunities for large industrial enterprises due to cost-efficiency and sustainability of gas," said Denis Batyzhev, General Director of Serebryansky Cement Plant.

“Within the gasification program, Gazprom Mezhregiongaz focuses on connecting and switching industrial enterprises to gas. Thus, in the Ryazan Region the five-year program provides for the construction of a gas pipeline to connect a new line of a greenhouse complex in Rybnovsky Region; technical re-equipping of eight gas distribution plants in Alexandro-Nevsky, Spassky, Klepikovsky, Pronsky, Rybnovsky, Ryazansky and Shatsky Regions will provide new consumers with gas. The use of natural gas encourages the development of the industry and it provides business with an opportunity to find new prospects for further growth and development," emphasized Yury Pakhomovsky, Deputy General Director of Gazprom Mezhregiongaz.
