Tatarstan, Russia: There are all prerequisites to commence the construction of cement-concrete roads

The construction of cement-concrete roads in Tatarstan may begin in the coming years. This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Roads of the Republic Farit Khanifov in an interview with IA "Tatar-inform".

“We are preparing for the construction of cement concrete roads. These are the strongest roads. But their construction is a complex undertaking. However, such roads have one clear advantage - they are durable. As the Belarusians say, you built it and forget about it. We studied the Russian and Belarusian experience. And we have all the prerequisites to take on this work. It is important, I think, to build roads of categories 4 and 5 from cement concrete” stated the minister.

Khanifov noted that the cost of cement-concrete roads in some cases is even lower than that of asphalt-concrete ones. There are supporting regulatory documents.

“The road to Borovoe Matyushino is the project of the year 2000. Everything worked perfectly for 20 years, practically without flaws. Operational measures are carried out only from time to time. In Tukayevsky and Nizhnekamsk regions there are settlements where cement-concrete roads were laid 50 years ago, and still operate without repair a single repair. I think that cement-concrete roads are undeservedly forgotten,” he stated.

According to the minister, technologies that would allow roads to withstand increasing loads, will make them impossible to be maintained in perfect condition. “Therefore, cement concrete roads are the way out. It is necessary to look at where cement-concrete roads are most needed, and to start building them there. For example, we have large flows of inert cargo to the construction site of roads. This technology should be used there,” the minister is convinced.

At the same time, the head of Mindortrans emphasized that different roads are needed in the republic. “That is, in terms of efficiency, we will use concrete in one area, asphalt or crushed stone in another,” he concluded.
