The volume of construction materials transported by rail in Russia in January-June amounted to 63.2 million tons (up by 5.1 % YoY), as per the report of Russian Railways. The volume of cement transported by rail in H1 2020 amounted to 11.4 million tons (down by 9.4 % YoY).
In 5M 2020, cement transportation volume by rail amounted to 9.1 million tons (down by 7.3 % YoY). Cement transportation in 4M 2020 amounted to 6.68 million tons (down by 6.3 % YoY).
As per Soyuzcement’s H1 2020 preliminary report, cement consumption in Russia amounted to 24.9 million tons (down by almost 6 % YoY). Cement consumption in June amounted to 5.8 million tons (down by 10.8 % YoY).
The government measures supporting the construction industry, essential industrial enterprises and providing mortgage rates compensation for citizens is expected to have a positive impact on the industry in the long term. The mass renovation of the housing stock, the implementation of projects for the integrated development of territories, an increase in the share of construction of cement concrete roads and the implementation of the national project “Housing and Urban Environment” will also be key stimulating factors.
