Development of a rapid crystal optics method for determining free silica in a raw material and in a raw slurry

The article describes the procedure for determining the free silicon oxide content in the raw materials and raw slurry used in manufacture of Portland cement clinker. Using the microscope as a tool, the method enables rapid calculation of the content of free coarse-grained silicon oxide and, consequently, control of the kiln burning process.
