Azerbaijani Gazakh Cement to Boost Cement and Clinker Exports

The cement plant in the Gazakh region in northwestern Azerbaijan plans to increase exports in 2020, mainly to Georgia. The possibility of supplying Iran is also being considered. Due to modernization, the company plans to increase the capacity of its production lines up to 1.5 million tpa.

Gazakh Cement began exporting clinker to Georgia last year. Total export amounted to over 1,000 tons of cement and clinker, making Gazakh Cement the first company in the history of the republic to export both products.

“We are in search of partners among the countries of the region at the moment, and we are considering the possibility of exporting our products to Iran,” — the company representatives said.

The plant intends to increase production volumes to 1.5 million tons of cement. Modernization process began in 2019 with the installation of a new clinker cooling system. Future plans include increasing the capacity of the enterprise to 3 million tons of clinker per year.

Three cement plants with a total design capacity of 3.7 million tpa operate in Azerbaijan: Gyzildash Cement (Norm Sement), Holcim Azerbaijan and Gazakh Cement. Holcim Azerbaijan announced plans to supply its products not only to Georgia, but also to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russian Dagestan.

In January, Azerbaijani factories had already exported 12,600 tons of cement  ($661,000 worth) to neighboring Georgia. According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia it is 1,200 tons more than a year ago. Azerbaijan exported about 600,000 tons of cement to Georgia in 2019.

Gazakh Cement plant runs a dry process production line, delivering products under the AkkordCement brand. Gazakh Cement is a subsidiary of Akkord group, which also produces crushed stone, sand and concrete.
