Uzbekistan Cuts on Portland Cement Production

The production of Portland cement in Uzbekistan in February decreased by 13% YoY and amounted to 551,200 tons. According to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, enterprises of the republic produced 1.025 million tons of Portland cement in Jan-Feb, which is 19.5% less than Jan-Feb 2019.

February shows increased output compared to January. In 2020, the difference was 16.4%, as reported by the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Today Uzbekistan has 25 cement enterprises with a total capacity of 11.1 million tons per year. The largest ones are Kyzylkumcement (3.1 million tons per year), Akhangarantsement (2.2 million tons) and Sherabad Cement plant (1.5 million tons).

In mid-October 2019, Surkhantsementinvest commissioned a cement plant with a capacity of 1.1 million tons in the Surkhandarya region. The majority of cement at Surkhantsementinvest cement plant will be exported. The cost of the construction amounted to 144 million dollars.

At the end of 2017, the Russian holding EUROCEMENT group, which owns Akhargarantsement, signed an agreement with the Chinese Beijing Triumph International Engineering on the construction of a cement plant with a capacity of 2.4 million tpa. The project cost 162.9 million dollars. Commissioning is scheduled for 2020.

In 2019, Portland cement production in Uzbekistan increased by 15.9% compared to 2018 and reached 9.68 million tons. At the same time, imports decreased: down to 3.27 million tons (- 6.8%) and down to 153.5 million dollars (- 13.1%). Since January 2018, Uzbekistan has had a duty-free import of clinkers.
