Cement Production in Estonia in January-October 2020 Drops Almost 50 %

In January-October 2020, the volume of cement production in Estonia decreased by 46.8 % compared to the same period last year, down to 216,100 tons. The volume of cement production in October amounted to 21,900 tons, which is 44.4 % less than in October last year, and 4 % less than in September this year.

The volume of ready-mixed concrete production in 10 months decreased by 18.2 % compared to January-October 2019 and amounted to 501,500 m3. October RMC production volume fell 14.2 % compared to October last year.

The volume of dry building mixtures production showed a slight decrease of 5.5 % in 10 months of 2020 (down to 107,200 tons).

The volume of clinker production decreased by 78.2 % over the same period last year, down to 34,900 tons. The reason for this was that Estonia ceased clinker production. In March this year it became known that Estonian Kunda Nordic plant — the only cement producer in the country — ceased clinker production due to the rising cost of quotas for CO2 emissions in the European Union.
