Kenyan industrial group Devki Group has begun construction of a Ksh 50 billion cement plant in Kitui County, with operations expected to start in mid-2027.
The plant is being built in the Ngaaie area of Mwingi North, which has significant limestone deposits. It will be the first cement manufacturing facility in Kitui County.
According to Devki Group Executive Chairman Dr Narendra Raval, the project is expected to create direct and indirect employment and support the development of local businesses, including transporters, suppliers and traders. Thousands of local residents are already benefiting from employment and business opportunities associated with the construction project.
The company expects the new plant to increase cement production and bring manufacturing capacity closer to consumers in eastern Kenya, potentially helping to reduce transportation costs and improve supply to the local market. Devki Group also plans to implement social infrastructure projects in neighbouring communities.
