GOST R ISO 6707-1-2020 “Buildings and structures. General terms” comes into effect on June 1st

On June 1st, 2021 new technical standard will come into effect. Instead of GOST R 58033-2017 “Buildings and structures. Vocabulary. Part 1. General terms” new standard GOST R ISO 6707-1-2020 “Buildings and structures. General terms” will come into effect. The new standard was approved by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology.

The document was prepared by JSC TsNIIPromzdaniy based on the Russian version of the international standard ISO 6707-1: 2020 “Buildings and civil engineering works - Vocabulary - Part 1: General terms” IDT.

As the developers of GOST R ISO 6707-1-2020 point out, with growth in the number of international construction projects and the development of international market for building materials, the need for a "common language" in this area increases. The preparation of the standard is one of the steps towards the formation of a complete set of common terms for use in the construction industry. The selection of terms and definitions will be corrected and supplemented as soon as approved.

This national standard includes the terms and concepts that are commonly used in documentation regulating construction work, as well as terms used to specify products and types of work. It is important that in relation to matters of law, some general construction terms have a narrow interpretation and, therefore, the definition given in this standard does not apply.

The introduction of GOST R ISO 6707-1-2020 will improve the exchange of information in the field of design in the construction industry of different countries, the implementation and technical support of construction work within the industries of these countries. Its use in the development of other standards helps to harmonize and provide a framework for industry terminology.

The standard provides foreign language equivalents of standardized terms in English, as well as the wording of terms adopted in the United States, Great Britain, Australia and Malaysia.
