Ivano-Frankivsk Cement Plant Upgrades Power Distribution System

Ivano-Frankivsk cement plant upgraded its power distribution system. The upgrade was carried out by one of the world's largest manufacturers of electrical equipment, the American company Eaton.

A cement plant in the village of Jamnitsa, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine built a terminal for raw materials additives in 2016, and reconstructed the production line #1 in 2017-2018. A full set of equipment updated on the cement production line was updated. As a result, a need arose for a new electricity distribution system that would ensure continuous production process.

It is crucial to maintain a high temperature in the kiln during the raw materials processing. The increase in voltage can lead to temperature drops, loss of raw materials and deformation of the metal.

The Ivano-Frankivskcement energy distribution system runs on Xiria medium voltage device and the Eaton xEnergy switchboard system. The xEnergy low voltage distribution system was chosen to power all process equipment. To protect the cable lines, NZM case circuit breakers were selected.

Eaton was tasked with designing the system so that failure accidents in one node did not affect the operation of the rest of the equipment. According to the company, the time required for regular maintenance of the plant’s equipment was ultimately cut from 10-12 to only 2 days a year.

The World Bank recognizes Ivano-Frankivskcement as one of the twenty most technologically equipped cement plants in the world. The design capacity of the enterprise is 3 million tons of cement per year. The building materials production complex produces over 300 products, including slate and gypsum. It is the only manufacturer of asbestos-free roofing slate sheets in the country.

In 2019, the Ivano-Frankivsk plant utilized its capacity by 90%. That became possible since in May the Ukrainian government introduced tariffs on clinker and cement from Belarus and Moldova, while completely banning the import of Russian products.
