Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili emphasised the importance of a new project by Hunnewell Cement, a subsidiary of a cement manufacturer HeidelbergCement Georgia, which aims to use tyre waste as an alternative fuel, for marking a “crucial step both economically and environmentally”.
Speaking at a project presentation event at the Kaspi cement plant in the country’s east, Davitashvili thanked investors for implementing “such important projects” and for their “outstanding responsibility” towards the country and its economy.
The Ministry of Economy said the new project was expected to create additional employment opportunities with its budget of ₾5.8 million ($2.12mln). Currently the company employs over 1,200 individuals nationwide.
The Minister also discussed the “significant contribution” of the construction sector to the country’s economy. He noted Georgia had experienced “stable positive” economic growth in recent years, with a 10 percent growth from January to August.
He added infrastructure projects played a “significant role” in supporting economic growth, with more than seven percent of gross domestic product allocated to them annually.
