KNAUF invests in a mining enterprise in Arkhangelsk region

In 2021, KNAUF will invest 3 million euros in a mining enterprise in the Arkhangelsk region. The funds will be used to modernize equipment that is used in the mining of gypsum stone in the Kholmogorsk region as part of the activities of the Arkhangelsk branch of OOO “KNAUF GIPS KOLPINO”.

Since the start of development of the Glubokoe quarry in 2008, the productivity of the KNAUF GIPS KOLPINO mining facilities has steadily grown. Today, thanks to good cooperation with Glubokoe - Novoe station, located 10 km from the quarry, the branch loads over 8,000 units of train rolling stock per year on average.
During the period from 2008 to 2021, almost 7.6 million tons of gypsum stone were shipped. The main consumers of the extracted raw materials are cement and gypsum plants located in the North-West region of Russia.

Despite the large volumes of shipment, according to geological exploration data, balance reserves of the Glubokoe open-pit mine will not be exhausted for a long time. As of January 1, 2021, they were estimated at 13.7 million tons. The full development of the quarry and the start of land reclamation work are planned for 2035.
