Korean company is ready to invest in the construction of a cement plant

A Memorandum of Understanding between the Sakhalin Region Development Corporation and the South Korean company SI Resources Co., Ltd was signed in Moscow during the Sakhalin Region Open Day. The event was organized for investors in the timber processing, building materials and renewable energy sectors by the regional government, as well as the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic as well as the Corporation for the Development of the Sakhalin Region. Governor of the Sakhalin Region Valery Limarenko took part in negotiations with the Korean company.

It is assumed that a cement plant with a capacity of up to 700 thousand tons of products per year will be built in the Smirnykhovsky district in the vicinity of the village of Pobedino on the basis of the Gomon limestone deposit.

“Our region has all the prerequisites for the successful implementation of the cement plant project. The necessary raw material base is available. The demand for cement is growing. Most importantly, the regional government purposefully supports projects for the production of building materials” stated Andrei Medvedev, General Director of the Sakhalin Region Development Corporation.

“I am glad to see that the interests of the company I represent and the regional authorities in terms of creating a new production coincide. Therefore, we hope that all issues will be resolved as soon as possible and our project will soon enter the phase of practical implementation” mentioned Chai Gen Dek, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SI Resources Co., Ltd.

According to preliminary data, about 500 new jobs will be created at the new cement production facility.
