Lafarge Canada Tests Natural Gas Powered Power Generators

In southern Alberta, Canada, road construction often requires the use of portable crushers and washers in the construction of road foundations. Usually portable equipment requires the use of generators to generate electricity. In most cases, diesel generators are used.

Calgary Aggregates, part of Lafarge Canada, have tested new natural gas generators. They provide longer run times, lower pollutant emissions and require less maintenance. Natural gas is easier to transport than diesel fuel.

As a result of the tests, 40% reduction in electricity generation costs was shown due to a decrease in the amount and cost of fuel burned. In addition, greenhouse gas emissions and noise emissions for local residents have been reduced.
