The Government of Kazakhstan has entered the active phase of implementing five major cross-border hubs designed to strengthen the country’s role as a key transport and logistics node and increase the volume of non-primary exports by 30 %.
Managing companies have already been appointed in all directions, and infrastructure construction is underway. On the border with Uzbekistan, the International Center for Industrial Cooperation «Central Asia» is being established, which is expected to raise bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD. In the east, the Khorgos hub is expanding, including the Special Economic Zone «ICBC «Khorgos» and «Khorgos – Eastern Gate», where the SkyHansa international airport and new logistics complexes are being built.
In the West Kazakhstan Region, the Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Center is operating, focused on exports to Russia, where projects for the production of construction materials and the processing of automobile tires are being implemented. The Center is located near Uralsk Airport and has the status of an industrial zone.
Work is also underway to develop the Caspian hub: in the ports of Aktau and Kuryk, a container hub and the multifunctional Sarja terminal are being constructed. In the Zhambyl Region, along the «Western Europe – Western China» route, an Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex is being formed to handle and distribute flows at the border with Kyrgyzstan.
The launch of the hubs is expected to accelerate trade processes with neighboring states and provide more efficient logistics conditions for Kazakhstani companies.
