Mordovcement reclaims exhausted quarry sites

In two years, specialists of Mordovcement (part of CEMROS) have recultivated more than 10 hectares of exhausted quarry sites. Investments in reclamation amount to more than RUB 5 mln annually.

The restoration of raw material quarries is carried out in line with the environmental policy of CEMROS to reduce the negative impact of raw material extraction. This year, Mordovcement's team reclaimed part of the western area of the Vankinsky quarry, from where raw materials were used for wet and semi-dry cement production lines. Cement workers implemented technical and biological phases of reclamation on some of the exhausted lands: they made landscape adjustments (backfilling of ditches, trenches, pits, depressions), applied a fertile soil layer and planted more than 35 thousand pine seedlings of about two years of age.

Seedlings for reforestation were selected from those most suitable for revegetation purposes and ensuring the highest adaptability. The whole reforestation process was supervised by the Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management of the Republic of Mordovia.

And while the soil and the balance are being restored, the raw materials for the wet and semi-dry cement production lines are supplied from the eastern section of the Vankinsky quarry.
