In the course of the work, Mordovcement (part of the EUROCEMENT group) carried out artificial reforestation in the Vankinsky quarry on a total area of 3 hectares. In total, over 12 thousand pine saplings, about two years old, have been planted. Conifers were planted in a mechanized way using specialized equipment.
Planting of forest cultures was carried out under the supervision of the Ministry of Forestry, Hunting and Nature Management of the Republic of Mordovia. Seedlings for reforestation were selected based on the most successfully used for landscaping purposes and providing maximum survival rate.
The widespread use of forest reclamation is dictated, on one hand, by the need to optimize the ecological balance in the region, on the other hand, by relatively low cost and availability of work on afforestation of territories.
In 2017, chalk mining in the western section of the Vankinsky quarry was suspended in order to begin work on land restoration. In accordance with the project, upon completion of the development of the quarry, the territory was subject to technical and biological reclamation.
Alexander Danilov, chief mine surveyor of AO Mordovcement:
"Purposeful reclamation of the quarry land, which has been carried out, will allow to comply with the requirements of environmental legislation and accelerate the process of restoring soil properties in order to return the site, disturbed by mining, to its original state."
Sergey Bochkarev, head of the mining department of AO Mordovcement:
“It is very important to maintain a balance between technological and environmental directions in production. We have developed a set of works aimed at the most rational use of subsoil areas, restoration of the productivity and economic value of quarries, as well as improving environmental conditions. "
