Qatrana Cement Company will convert its captive power plant, which provides energy for a cement manufacturing plant in Karak, Jordan, to natural gas. The project will be carried out by the Finnish technology group on the installed engines at the site.
Natural gas operation will reduce emissions and lower operating costs through savings on both fuel and lubricating oil consumption. The order was booked by the Finnish technology group in the first quarter of 2026.
The company notes that the upgrade will also enable the engines to operate on sustainable fuels as and when they become available. The contract scope includes conversion and upgrade works, while commissioning is expected to take place as per project schedule.
Amer Khatib, CEO of Qatrana Cement Company, said the project forms part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
