SLK Cement Will Supply SR Cement for Construction of Ice Stadium in Omsk

Buzzi Unicem’s SLK Cement will supply cement for the construction of a new ice stadium Arena Omsk in the city of Omsk. It is planned to supply 70,000 m3 of RMC for the construction of the facility, of which 30,000 m3 — sulfate-resistant concrete. Most of the concrete will be produced using the products of SLK Cement’s Sukholozhskcement branch.

The proximity of groundwater places special demands on the choice of building materials for the foundation of Arena Omsk. Sulfate-resistant concrete based on the CEM I 42.5N SR3, which meets the requirements for sulfate-resistant cements both GOST 22266-2013 and the European standard EN-197. It allows for the production of concrete with increased resistance to aggressive environment, high strength, frost resistance, and water resistance. It is intended for the manufacture of concrete and reinforced concrete structures exposed to aggressive sulfate environments.

Two of the four companies accredited for concrete supply are partners of SLK Cement. Shipments of Sukholozhskcement products started in September 2020 and will continue throughout the construction of the Omsk Arena, which is scheduled for delivery in 2022.

The products are transported from Sukhoi Log by rail to SLK’s Omsk terminal and then to the concrete plant via cement trucks.

Currently, vertical structures of the first floor are erected at the construction site. The work is expected to be completed by autumn 2022, and in December 2022 - January 2023, the new facility will host the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.
