The Ministry of Industry and Trade linked the growth of prices for building materials with logistics

The cause of price increase for building materials in Russia in August 2021 by 0.4% compared to July, in addition to the seasonal factor, is the rising cost of transportation. This was declared by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov, commenting on the Rosstat data.

"Price fluctuations on various types of building materials traditionally depend on the seasonal factor: so, the price peak usually occurs in mid-summer (July-August), and in autumn there is a downward trend in cost. The continuing rise in prices of building materials in August was also caused by a sudden surge in the cost of trucking" – the press service of the ministry reported his words.

Evtukhov cited the data that the logistics costs for delivery by road increased by 10–25%, the cost of transportation by rail – by 20–90% depending on the destination and type of material.

"The cost of transportation is 30-40% in the final price of cement , and 50–90% – in that of rock and aggregates," he added.

According to Rosstat, the prices of construction materials rose by 26.3% in August from the beginning of 2021 and by 30% compared to August 2020. Compared to July 2021, the price of cement increased by 2.1%.

Earlier the Federal Antimonopoly Service reported on additional inspections in the building materials markets.
