The rise in prices for building materials in Russia leads to an increase in the cost of construction

Construction materials have risen sharply in Russia in the first half of 2021. Consequently, the growth of construction costs this year is projected by at least 15%. The prices for metal, wood and plastic were amongst the highest in growth.

The rise in prices has already affected all segments of the primary housing market. The cost of construction increased by 15% in the mass market category for the first half of 2021, this was calculated by Artem Oreshko, construction director of the Lenstroytrest Group of Companies. According to these estimates, concrete has risen in price by about 12% since the beginning of the year.

“The cost of construction has also increased due to the growth in the cost of finishing materials: putty and primer, glass and even sand have risen in price by 10-30%,” stated Igor Kartsev, General Director of the Maximum Life Development Group.

Janis Kraulis, managing director of KNAUF group Eastern Europe and CIS, stated that since the beginning of the year, the main product of KNAUF - gypsum plasterboards - has risen in price by a little over 5%, and dry building mixes have risen in price by the same amount.
