The government of Senegal has acquired a 10 percent stake in the local subsidiary of Dangote Cement. Following the transaction, Dangote Cement’s ownership in the Senegalese unit decreased from 99.99 percent to 89.99 percent. The state has become a minority shareholder.
The deal comes amid declining financial performance at the subsidiary. In 2025, Dangote Cement Senegal’s revenue fell to NGN 151 billion from NGN 192.2 billion in 2024, representing a year-on-year decline of about 21.4 percent.
Cement sales during the year amounted to about 1.2 million tonnes, a decrease of 19.8 percent compared with the previous period.
The company’s plant in Dakar has a production capacity of around 1.5 million tonnes of cement annually. The facility supplies cement to domestic infrastructure projects and exports to neighbouring West African markets.
