Timlyuy Cement Modernized 12,000 m3 Cooling Tower

Timlyuy Cement commissioned an updated two-section cooling tower for the reverse water supply system to protect the plant equipment from overheating in the village of Kamensk of Buryatia. According to Sibirsky Cement Holding [Sibcem] — the parent company of Timlyuy Cement — the modernized equipment a cooling capacity of up to 12,000 m3 of water daily.

The cooling tower was originally built in 1989 and 30 years later dilapidated parts of it were dismantled, replaced and geared to install modern equipment.

Fully updated water distribution system and fans with an automatic speed control [to increase air flow by several times] were installed to boost the cooling rate. The metal water distribution system was replaced by fiberglass, which is not susceptible to corrosion and has a longer technical lifetime. A water trap was mounted at the inlet of the fan unit to reduce moisture entrainment and provide even distribution of air flows. The trap is made out of low-pressure polyethylene profiled sheets with a half-wave cross section. Installation of the equipment was carried out by the general contractor, a subsidiary of Sibcem — Sibcemservice.

The modernization cost Timlyuy Cement more than 15 million rubles.

In November, Sibcem modernized the power supply system of the main raw material base of Timlyuy Cement. Investments amounted to 38 million rubles. The current production capacity of Timlyuy Cement is 800,000 tpa.
