Ukrainian Government Boosts Infrastructure Projects Funding by 33 %

The Government of Ukraine increases the budget allocated for the construction of concrete and asphalt roads in 2020 by 33 %, from 75 to 100 billion hryvnias (3.68 billion US dollars). Infrastructure projects should stimulate the construction industry and the economy as a whole, as per government’s assessment.

“We expect that extensive road construction will create an additional 170,000 jobs with hundreds of thousands more as the construction industry further develops,” said Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal.

On February 29, road works began at 68 sites in 17 regions of Ukraine. Highway N-31 (Dnieper - Tsarichanka - Kobelyaki - Reshetilovka) is being built as the first СС pavement road in Ukraine. The two-lane highway is being and will later be expanded to four lanes. HeidelbergCement’s subsidiary Krivyi Rih Cement Plant acts as a supplier of building materials.

Construction works in Ukraine are not shut down duiring the COVID-19 quarantine regime. Under conditions of use of personal protective equipment on sites, works continue. However, developers have suspended about 20 % of construction projects due to a decline in housing demand. The government is expected to lift the quarantine on May 11.
