Chinese company Yaobai Cement, a subsidiary of WIH, has announced the launch of a new cement plant in Moroto, Northern Uganda. The project represents an investment of 300 million USD.
The construction will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, the plant will have a clinker production capacity of approximately 0.6 million tonnes per year. The project is aimed at reducing Uganda’s reliance on clinker imports and strengthening the country’s domestic industrial base.
That output is expected to significantly reduce the country’s reliance on clinker imports, boost jobs and supports industrialization, especially in the Karamoja sub-region, which has long been associated with underdevelopment.
