Zimbabwe increases cement production capacity

A new cement plant will be built in Chegutu, Zimbabwe, in September 2026. The project is valued at USD 100 million. Construction of the cement facility is more than 90 % complete, and the project is now moving into the equipment installation phase.

Once operational, the plant will produce about 800,000 tonnes of cement per year. It will become the third cement production facility in Mashonaland West Province and is expected to increase domestic production capacity and create new jobs.

Chinese company Shuntai Investments will build a 50 MW thermal power plant at the site of the USD 100 million cement plant in Chegutu. The project will provide the facility with a stable electricity supply, while surplus power will be fed into the national grid. According to the company, Shuntai aims to achieve energy self-sufficiency after the plant is launched.

Earlier, we reported that Shuntai Investments was investing in the expansion of a cement plant in Zimbabwe.
