AKKERMANN’s Gornozavodskcement Will Use AF in Clinker Production

In cooperation with foreign specialists, the enterprise began developing a concept for the preparation and use of alternative fuels (AF) in the clinker production process. The main goal of the project is to replace up to 30 % of the natural gas used at the enterprise as a process fuel. Among the possible AFs are wood processing waste generated in large quantities in the enterprise’s region of the Perm Territory. The storage of such waste pollutes air, water bodies and soil of the adjacent territories.

Utilization of wood processing waste in cement kilns gives a lot of advantages compared to other methods of its utilization, let alone its storage:

  • the material and the gas environment together ensure a burning temperature of up to 2000 °C;
  • gases reside in the hot zone at a temperature of above 1200 °C for at least seven seconds;
  • using wood waste as a fuel material reduces CO2 emissions;
  • the clinker production process in the kiln is waste-free, since all the ash formed in the kiln participates in the technological process and becomes an integral part of the end-product.
Gornozavodskcement has recently announced it intends entering the Russian oil-well cement market and becoming the leading supplier of the material for oil and gas companies of the Urals and Western Siberia regions.
