Cement Production in Argentina in January-November 14.3 % Down

The volume of cement production by Argentina enterprises in January-November 2020 decreased by 14.3 % compared to January-November last year (down to 8.88 million tons). Cement production in November 2020 increased by 28 % compared to November last year, up to 1.13 million tons, according to the Association of Cement Manufacturers of Argentina. According to the current results, the association projects a drop in annual cement production in 2020 by 11.5 %, down to 9.83 million tons.

The volume of cement consumption in November amounted to 1.09 million tons, which is 25.1 % more than in November last year. Consumption of cement for 11 months decreased by 14.7 %, amounting to 8.76 million tons. Consumption of cement in the first half of the year was behind last year's volume by 30.7 %.

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 20, Argentina was quarantined and construction works completely stopped. Since April 16, with the support of the Argentine Chamber of Construction, a special protocol "Practical recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic" has been approved, which allowed construction works to be carried out, subject to ensuring the necessary health measures. The protocol was developed as part of the state program for the resumption of construction activities in the country.
