The Government of Burkina Faso has decided to establish CIM-SAHEL, a company that will operate in the cement market and participate in regulating the sector. The decision was made on July 2, 2026, at a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by President of Faso Ibrahim Traoré.
CIM-SAHEL will be established as a mixed-economy company with majority state participation. Its share capital will amount to 5 billion CFA francs. The state will hold 60 % of the capital, while private partners will hold 40 %.
The creation of the company is linked to the growth of infrastructure construction and strong demand for building materials, primarily cement. CIM-SAHEL is expected to ensure the availability of cement throughout the country, reduce speculative pressure on the market, and help maintain reasonable price levels.
The company is also expected to support the accelerated pace of implementation of public and private infrastructure projects.
