Cement Dispatches by Rail in Russia Down by 7 % in April

The volume of cement distributed by railway in April 2020 amounted to 1.87 million tons, down by 7.2 % MoM and 24.3 % YoY. Volga Federal District leads in monthly volumes accounting for 503,000 tons.

Top three leading cement producers by railway dispatches volume in April are:

  • Mordovcement (165,000 tons),

  • Sebryakovcement (118,000 tons),

  • Topkinsky cement (100,000 tons).

According to Russian Railways’ data, April showed a 30.7 % MoM increase in export dispatches by rail (up to 94,000 tons). Export dispatches by rail in January-April 2020 fell by 14.6 % YoY, down to 250,000 tons. Most of the cement (42.5 %) went to Belarus, amounting to 116,000 tons. Kazakhstan received 100,000 tons, and Finland received 17,000 tons, while the rest went to other countries. Unlike last year, when export of Russian cement by rail to Ukraine indicated 98,000 tons in the first four months, 2020 has seen no dispatches due to Ukraine banning Russian cement imports in August 2019.

Meanwhile, the first four months of 2020 showed a 27.7 % YoY increase in cement imports by rail. to As per Russian Railways, Russia imported 277,700 tons of cement in January-April, with 210,000 tons coming from Belarus and 67,700 tons coming from Kazakhstan.

A total 6.68 million tons of cement were distributed by rail in Russia in the first four months of 2020, indicating a 6.3 % YoY decrease.
