Cement Europe has published updated Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for CEM I, CEM II and CEM III, based on the amended European standard EN 15804+A2. The new EPDs replace the 2020 versions and cover the cradle-to-gate life stages of cement production.
European Environmental Product Declarations provide verified and comparable environmental data for use in life cycle assessments of buildings and construction works. They are an essential tool for business-to-business communication and for enabling informed choices in sustainable construction.
Cement Europe first published a European EPD for CEM I in 2008, updated it in 2015, and expanded the approach in 2020 to include CEM II and CEM III. The latest update ensures continued alignment with evolving European standards and policy objectives for a more sustainable built environment.
While environmental performance may vary between countries and production sites, the life cycle assessment indicators for the three main cement types remain within a sufficiently consistent range to justify the use of representative European EPDs for typical building assessments across the EU.
