Cement Production in Argentina in February 2021 Increased by 18 %

The volume of cement production by Argentine enterprises in February 2021 increased by 18 % compared to February last year, up to 820,365 tons. The volume of domestic consumption of cement in February 2021 increased by 18.2 % compared to February last year, up to 811.808 tons, according to the Association of Cement Producers of Argentina.

Compared to January 2021, the volume of cement production decreased by 9.2 %, while the volume of cement consumption in the country decreased by 9.4 %.

The volume of cement production in the first two months of 2021 increased by 18.6 % compared to January-February last year, up to 1.72 million tons. The volume of domestic consumption of cement for the same period increased by 19.1 %, up to 1.71 million tons.

Consumption of cement in Argentina in the 12 months of 2020 decreased by 11.5 % compared to 2019. Cement production in the same period decreased by 11.1 %.

Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 20, Argentina was quarantined and construction works completely stopped. Since April 16, with the support of the Argentine Chamber of Construction, a special protocol "Practical recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic" has been approved, which allowed construction works to be carried out, subject to ensuring the necessary health measures. The protocol was developed as part of the state program for the resumption of construction activities in the country.
