Cement Production in Tajikistan Increased by 20 %

Cement production in Tajikistan is up by 20.3 % YoY in 2M 2020. Cement enterprises of the country produced 564,300 tons of cement. The production of cement has been growing in the country since the early 2018, partly due to the growth of export to neighbouring Uzbekistan.

An increase in production in January-February 2020 amounted to 95,300 tons. One of the factors behind said increase is export deliveries, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan. Uzbekistan accounts for approximately 60 % of Tajik cement export, which is around 2 3% of total production volume of Tajikistan.

Production and export volumes are increasing annually. In 2018, enterprises in Tajikistan produced 3.84 million tons of cement (+ 23.3 % YoY), and 4.2 million tons in 2019 (+ 20 % YoY).

Cement export in 2019 amounted to 1.5 million tons ($68 million worth). Key importers of Tajik cement were Uzbekistan (980,000 tons), Afghanistan (576,000 tons) and Kyrgyzstan (80,600 tons).

There are 13 enterprises with a total design capacity of 4.7 million tpa in Tajikistan. The three Tajik-Chinese joint ventures — Chung-Tsai Mohir Cement, Huaxin Gayur Cement, Huaxin Gayur Sughd Cement — account for 90 % of the production volume.
