Cement Production in Ukraine in Q1 Grows 6.3 % YoY

Cement production volume in Ukraine over Q1 2020 reached 1.625 million tons, representing a 6.3 % YoY growth. However, March production indicators fell short by 4.2 % YoY (down to 686,800 tons) as per the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

The first two months of 2020 indicated a 15.7 % YoY growth, making January and February the primary contributors to the quarterly results. Indicators of 349,000 tons of cement in January and 588,800 tons in February are the best for corresponding months in a decade.

Cement stock in Q1 2020 fell by 9 % YoY, down to 185,600 tons. Last year, Ukrainian enterprises produced 8.89 million tons of cement (- 4 % YoY).

The introduction of import duties for Belarusian and Moldovian clinker and cement, along with the ban of Russian cement products, boosted the demand for local products. Major participants of the Ukrainian cement market noted an increase in capacity utilization of up to 90 % during the fall of 2019.
