Government of Uzbekistan defines new tasks for the development of the building materials industry

On June 25, a video conference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was held, dedicated to the development of the building materials industry and priority tasks for the future.

It was noted that over the past ten years, USD 12 billion in investments have been attracted to the industry, and more than 4,000 modern enterprises have been commissioned. Production volume has grown from 7 trillion to 53 trillion soums, while exports last year amounted to USD 1.2 billion. Today, 98 % of the materials needed for the construction of new residential buildings and industrial facilities are produced domestically.

The President emphasized the need to transform the industry into a sector that provides builders with comprehensive solutions in terms of quality, standards, assortment, and price. Taking into account the expansion of housing construction to 280,000 units per year by 2040 and the implementation of major infrastructure projects, demand for building materials is estimated at USD 10 billion annually.

Responsible officials were instructed to prepare a draft resolution on creating equal conditions for the supply of imported and domestic products to large-scale and megaprojects. A task was also set to increase the share of local materials in hotels under construction in the regions to at least 95 %.

Special attention was paid to energy efficiency. Hokims were instructed to introduce a new design approach applied in Kamashi District, where the use of domestic energy-saving materials makes it possible to reduce costs by 20 %, and heating and cooling expenses by 25–30 %.

It was also instructed to launch an electronic platform for building materials with local and foreign certificates and to assist at least 50 enterprises in the industry in obtaining international quality certificates this year.
