Holcim Philippines boosts alternative fuel use at La Union plant

Holcim Philippines has announced the commissioning of a new alternative fuel (AFR) handling and dosing system at its La Union cement plant in Bacnotan on the island of Luzon.

The project comprises the installation of a 1,440 m² storage hall and a new AFR conveying and dosing system with a capacity of 20–30 t/h. A key outcome of the upgrade is the increase in the plant’s thermal substitution rate from 6 % to 37 %.

The higher share of alternative fuels is expected to drive cost savings and reduce Scope 1 emissions, in line with the sustainability targets of the Holcim.
