Krasnoyarsk Cement to Launch New Automatic Emission Control System

Emissions and pollution control system automation continues at Sibcem’s Krasnoyarsk Cement. In accordance with the requirement of Federal Laws on environmental protection and protection of atmospheric air, the enterprise has equipped the chimney of rotary kilns with all the necessary equipment. The costs of the project amounted to RUB 28.3 million.

The emission control system was created on the basis of the Finnish-made Gasmet II gas analytical complex and is intended for continuous monitoring of the parameters of air that comes out through a single chimney of kiln No. 3, 4 and 5. It consists of an industrial computer, a gas analyzer, a dust analyzer, a flow rate meter and a sampling probe. Sensors that determine the concentration of nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and suspended solids in flue gases are installed inside the chimney at an elevation of 45 meters. The industrial computer and monitors, where the data are output, are located in a separate room at the base of the chimney.

The system is in full assembly and is operating in test mode. Federal State Unitary Enterprise All-Russian Research Institute of Metrology named after D.I. Mendeleev completed complex tests to determine the margin of error. After receiving the package of documents on the type approval of the measuring instrument in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation, the acceptance and commissioning of the automatic system will be carried out.
The information will be then transferred to a unified system of state environmental monitoring. Based on the concept of the "Information Infrastructure" federal project, emission indicators will be available online to both supervisory authorities and the public.

“For Krasnoyarsk Cement, the statutory deadline for launching automatic measuring instruments expires on December 31, 2028. However, due to the unfavorable environmental situation in Krasnoyarsk, at the suggestion of the regional government, we voluntarily assumed obligations to implement the project ahead of schedule. The launch of the system is scheduled for the first quarter of 2021,” emphasizes Vladimir Afanasin, Managing Director of Krasnoyarsk Cement.

In recent years, Sibcem has invested over RUB 800 million in environmental projects at Krasnoyarsk Cement. In particular, the enterprise replaced three 80-meter chimneys with a single 130-meter chimney, which made it possible to reduce surface dust concentrations. Rotary kiln № 5 is now equipped with a modern multi-channel burner, which makes it possible to reduce fuel consumption and increase the efficiency of fuel combustion, hence the amount of emissions.

Also last year, the kiln unit was equipped with an electrostatic precipitator to improve dust removal from flue gases. The plans for 2021 include technical re-equipment of the aspiration system of the facility responsible for the primary crushing of limestone at Krasnoyarsk Cement.
