Krasnoyarsk Cement Will Test Online Emissions Monitoring System

Krasnoyarsk Cement (the enterprise of ‘Siberian Cement’ holding) equipped the smoke stack of rotary kilns with an automatic emissions monitoring system. The system is based on Finnish-made equipment and is designed for continuous monitoring. The system cost around 24 million rubles.

The monitoring system consists of:

  • an industrial computer

  • a gas analyzer

  • a dust analyzer

  • a flow meter

  • a sampling probe unit.

Sensors measuring the concentrations of nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and suspended solids in flue gases are installed inside the smoke stack at approximately 45 meter mark. An industrial computer and its displays for data monitoring are located in a separate room near the base of the smoke stack.

“While chosing the equipment, we took into account the requirements of Russian environmental legislation, which have recently become much stricter,” says Managing Director of Krasnoyarsk Cement Vladimir Afanasin.

The initial testing of equipment is scheduled for Q4 2020. The data from the monitoring system will be transferred to a unified system of state environmental control and all the figures will be available publicly online, said Siberian Cement representatives.

Krasnoyarsk Cement has 52 operating gas treatment units. The efficiency of their work ranges from 99.6 to 99.9%. In 2019, Krasnoyarsk Cement replaced three 80-meter smoke stacks with a single one (130 meters high). This allowed for better dispersion of impurities in high atmospheric layers and led to a decrease in their concentration in the surface layer.

Also last year, a multi-channel PYRO-JET burner of the German company KHD was installed on a rotary kiln No. 5. It increased the fuel combustion efficiency, which allowed to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The total investment in these projects amounted to about 450 million rubles.
