Nigeria’s Minister of Works Calls on cement manufacturers to reduce prices

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has called on cement manufacturers to immediately reduce prices, saying that the current cost of the product is placing pressure on ongoing infrastructure projects and increasing demands from contractors for contract variations. According to the minister, the federal government will engage cement manufacturers from July 1 on the issue of cement prices.

Lafarge, now HBM, and other manufacturers of cement should reduce their prices,” Umahi said. He emphasized that it is cement manufacturers who should review their cost, not the terms of contractors’ contracts.

The minister noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is investing heavily in critical infrastructure across the country, creating opportunities for manufacturers and investors. He urged HBM and other industry players to expand their capacity to meet the growing demand.
