Soyuzcement Reports Cement Production Increase by 7.6% in Russia

Cement production in Russia grew by 7.6% (to 54.5 million tons) in 2019,. According to the results of the year, the growth in demand for cement is expected to reach 8%, up to 58 million tons. The data is available in the December market review published by the Russian Association of Cement Producers ‘Soyuzcement’ on Wednesday, January 15.

The leaders in production growth are enterprises of the North Caucasus Federal District (+22%), the Central Federal District (+14%), the Far Eastern Federal District (+13%), and the Ural Federal District (+10%). The highest volumes (in tons) were achieved in the Central Federal District (14.453 million tons).

The authors of the review cover the period from January 1 to December 1, 2019. Based on the observed dynamics, they do forecast: demand for cement will increase by 8% YoY nearing the end of the year.

According to the review, the reason for the growth in cement production and demand is the dynamics of housing construction. There was 62.9 million m2 of housing commissioned in 2019. That is 8.2% more than in 2018.

At the same time, cement imports are declining in Russia and exports are growing. The main consumer countries are Kazakhstan, Belarus and Ukraine. Among large suppliers are Belarus, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkey.

Based on the results of 10M2019, Soyuzcement predicted an increase in cement production in Russia by 8.3%. The association emphasizes that 2019 was the first year since 2014 to show the growth in consumption of cement.

The review also states the total cement consumption in the countries of Euro-Asian Economic Cooperation in 2019 will reach about 73 million tons. In 2018, EAEU countries consumed 68 million tons of cement.
