Railway shipments across the country fell to 1.27 billion tons. The total freight turnover of Russian Railways amounted to 2.6 trillion ton-kilometers, while it was 3.3 trillion ton-kilometers in 2018.
Cement freight turnover for the year increased by 4.7%, to 26.3 million tons. Other building materials showed an increase of only 0.2%, to 124 million tons.
Railways account for about 45% of all cement shipments. The increase in cement freight turnover is associated with the implementation of the national project of ‘Housing and Urban Environment’. According to the Russian government, the national project implementation period ends in 2024.
The best shipment indicators of 2019 were demonstrated by Mordovcement, Novoroscement, Topkinsky Cement, South Ural Mining and Processing Company and Sebryakovcement plants.
Iron and manganese ore freight turnover grew by 3% (up to 120.2 million tons), chemical and mineral fertilizers — by 2.2% (up to 60.5 million tons).
Among the decreased shipment volumes are:
- coal — by 0.8% (up to 372 million tons),
- oil and oil products — by 1.9% (up to 232 million tons),
- coke — by 4.3% (up to 10.8 million tons) ),
- ferrous metals — by 5.6% (up to 73.8 million tons),
- ferrous scrap — by 7.7% (up to 14.7 million tons),
- non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials — by 0.5% (up to 19.6 million tons),
- chemicals and soda — 1.1% (up to 26.1 million tons),
- industrial raw materials and molding materials — 0.9% (up to 35 million tons),
- timber cargo — 8.1 % (up to 42 million tons),
- grain — 20.1% (up to 21.7 million tons).
Cement shipments across the country on average steadily increased throughout the year.
