The Syrian state-owned General Company for Cement and Building Materials Industry and Marketing (OMRAN) has begun receiving shipments of clinker from Egypt under an agreement with the Egyptian company. The deliveries follow a memorandum of understanding signed by the two parties in Cairo on January 29.
The import of raw materials will help ensure the continued operation of Syrian cement factories. Deliveries are being carried out in phases and depend on assessments of domestic market demand as well as the production capacity of the factories.
The agreement is expected to help maintain stable cement prices in Syria and reduce production costs by ensuring the availability of essential raw materials.
