Tajik Cement Plants Increase Production 10% YOY

Tajik cement enterprises produced 4.2 million tons of products in 2019. That’s 10% more than the year before. The growth was secured mostly by exports, which brought in 68.1 million in revenue over 2019.

Cement export to neighboring countries amounted to 1.546 million tons, which is 150,000 tons more than in 2018. Most Tajik cement was exported to Uzbekistan, 890,000 tons. Afghanistan received 576,000 tons, and 80,600 tons went to Kyrgyzstan.

The main cement producers in Tajikistan are three Tajik-Chinese joint ventures: Chungtsai Mohir Cement, Huaxin Gayur Cement, Huaxin Gayur Sughd Cement. They account for about 90% of the total production capacity.

Eighteen factories with a total annual design capacity of about 5 million tons operate in Tajik cement industry. However, the year of 2018 saw just around 76% of this capacity with 3.8 million tons of cement.

Cement makes up about 99% of all Tajik exports of building materials. Overall, the construction materials industry produced 278.6 million dollars worth of products in 2019. It is 35.6 million dollars more than in 2018.

Tajik cement exports are growing for the second year in a row since 2017, mainly due to increased supplies to neighboring Uzbekistan. According to the Uzbek State Committee for Statistics, cement imports increased 7.4 times in 2018 alone.

In June 2019, Mohir Cement company announced the construction of a plant with a capacity of 600,000 tons in the south of the country, with the participation of the Chinese investors.
