The M-12 "Vostok" federal highway from Moscow to Kazan is launched

CEMENTUM supplied a whole range of materials, services and technologies for the M-12 project.

The federal highway M-12 "Vostok" from Moscow to Kazan was inaugurated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Now the travel time between Moscow and Kazan has been reduced by half: the trip between the cities will take 6.5 hours instead of 12. Taking into account the previously opened sections, the highway is over 810 km long.

In terms of construction of roads, the M-12 project is one of the most complex of its kind and one of the largest in the history of federal highway construction. Differences in soil properties and geodesy at different sections, the need to build dozens of bridges, interchanges, overpasses and other man-made structures, the construction of high performance concrete to reinforce structures - all of this requires tremendous effort and coordination from builders and suppliers. During the 7th and 8th phases of construction, a number of unique man-made structures are being built, including a complex 8-span bridge over the Sviyaga River and a bridge crossing over the Volga River.

At different stages of the project, CEMENTUM supplied cement for the construction of artificial structures and the production of reinforced concrete, New Jersey monolithic fences, as well as mineral binders for soil reinforcement and non-metallic materials.

For the first time in Russia state-of-the-art technologies - cornice blocks made of super-strong fiber concrete were applied for M-12.

The use of ground reinforcement technology reduced the transportation and environmental impact on the construction area: instead of removing local soil and overloading logistics with the delivery of imported soil, the road foundation was constructed on site using a complex cementitious material DOROMIX.

On the 7th phase of the project, it was possible to reduce the construction time of the bridge structures thrice thanks to the contractor's use of CEMENTUM materials for the balanced concreting technology and sliding formwork.

Moreover, for the first time in Russia, an advanced technology of super high-strength fiber concrete (SPFB) was applied during the construction of one of the overpasses over the main route of M-12 at the 8th phase.
