Uzbekistan Invests 274.2 Million Dollars in Concrete Roads Construction

The Republic of Uzbekistan is going to invest US$ 274.2 million via loan capital provided by Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the construction of cement-concrete roads. The project is aiming at expanding regional trade and transport chain.

As part of the project, a 240-kilometer section of the Guzar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beineu highway in Karakalpakstan will be reconstructed into a two-lane concrete road, including access roads connecting the villages with the highway. The Guzar-Bukhara-Nukus-Beineu highway is one of the key trade routes in the region and part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation.

“As a landlocked country, Uzbekistan has made regional connectivity a central element of its transport policy,” said Pavan Karki, ADB Senior Transport Specialist. "This project will help develop the country's potential as a regional transport and logistics hub between Europe and Southeast Asia, contributing to economic growth."

To avoid overloading the road network and prevent destruction of the road surface, two automated stations for weighing the mass of vehicles in motion will be installed at separate points of the road network.
