Asia Cement Suggests Using Half of Landfill Waste as RDF

Asia Cement plant (Penza, Russia) — a dry-process cement plant commissioned in 2013 — plans on using landfill waste as RDF for its cement kilns in 2020. The project will half the area landfills occupy in the region, benefiting the environment. Now in most regions of Russia there is a waste disposal scheme in which up to 90% of waste is stored in landfills near settlements.

The decomposition of harmful substances occurs during high-temperature combustion in cement kilns into components that are safe for the atmosphere — carbon dioxide and water vapor.

Residues of ash in the clinker, improve the strength properties of concrete. Moving through the combustion system of a kiln, particles of calcined product bind and neutralize harmful and toxic substances. Carbon monoxide and sulphurous gases are captured by 99.96% by the filtration system.

LafargeHolcim implements RDF on a plant near the city of Kaluga since 2015. Belarusian Krasnoselskstroymaterialy plant announced this February the intent to also start using RDF.
