Birla Corp arm expands production at Kundanganj unit

Birla Corporation Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary RCCPL Private Limited, has commissioned a third production line at its Kundanganj cement grinding unit in Uttar Pradesh, increasing the company’s total consolidated capacity to 21.4 million tonnes per annum.

The expansion project, estimated at approximately USD 79 million, has added 1.4 million tonnes of grinding capacity. The company views this as part of its long-term growth strategy and plans to scale up total capacity to 27.6 million tonnes by the 2028-29 financial year.

The additional capacity is expected to strengthen the company’s presence in central and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The project is also estimated to create around 100,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly. Clinker supply for the unit will be sourced from the company’s existing integrated manufacturing plants.

Birla Corporation continues to focus on sustainability initiatives at the Kundanganj unit, including increasing the use of fly ash in cement production, expanding transport infrastructure, and developing a 5 MW solar power plant. Once operational, the share of renewable energy in the unit’s energy mix could increase to around 40 %.
