Cement and RMC Production in Estonia Declines in 2020

In 2020, the volume of cement production in Estonia decreased by 37.1 % compared to 2019, down to 255,300 tons. The volume of cement production in December amounted to 18,000 tons, which is 30 % less than in December 2019, and 15 % less than in November 2020.

The volume of ready-mixed concrete production decreased by 1.5 % YoY and amounted to 604,100 m3. In December 2020, 47,000 m3 of RMC was produced, which is 7.4 % more than in December 2019.

The volume of production of dry building mixtures in 2020 decreased by 3.3 % YoY and amounted to 123,800 tons. In December 2020, 6,600 tons of dry building mixtures was produced, which is 4.8 % more than in December 2019.

The volume of clinker production decreased by 78.1 % YoY, down to 34,900 tons. The reason for this was that Estonia ceased clinker production. In March this year it became known that Estonian Kunda Nordic plant — the only cement producer in the country — ceased clinker production due to the rising cost of quotas for CO2 emissions in the European Union.
